The Gold Coast is home to a whole heap of local celebrities, and surprise surprise they all love the place. We put them in front of a camera and they went nuts telling us what floats their boat about the Gold Coast - this wasn't paid, it's not scripted, its just real people telling you what they dig about their home town.

Pro surfer Bede Durbidge gives you the low down on the best breaks, Television Identity Shelley Craft gets excited talking about her favourite haunts for brekky, lunch and dinner, and swim coach supreme Dennis Cottrell tells you why he reckons the Gold Coast is the breeding ground of champions.

Great Australian (and mayor!) Ron Clarke drops some hints on where to get out and about, and the gorgeous Surfers Paradise Meter Maids give you the skinny on where to party like its 1999.

VIC HISLOP - Shark Hunter

What VIC HISLOP said:

Hi I'm Vic Hislop from Harvey Bay, a great place up there, I have the shark show there, if anybody's travelling that way it's very interesting but right now I'm on the Gold Coast and let me tell you what a day, its sunny, everybody's happy, there are hundreds of boats here, people everywhere all enjoying themselves it's just a great place to be. Well we're at the Southport Yacht club today and that's only five minutes drive from the middle of Surfers Paradise.

This place has got everything. I've never spent much time down here before but let me tell you I'm really enjoying it. Especially if you got your boat in a place like this, you have hundreds of boats around you, everybody's happy they are all doing what they want and you just go for a little walk down here you've got neighbours everywhere, have a yarn it's just a great life, go in here to the Southport Yacht club and have lunch it holds hundreds of people it's an amazing place and as I say just a short trip into Surfers or you can drive half an hour down to the border all the way along there are coastal towns and suburbs, it's just a great place to be especially on a day like this sunny hardly any wind it's just magnificent you wouldn't be dead for quids.

Ok that's a little bit about the area, most people know, the other thing is you can untie these ropes here and go anywhere and drop anchor. Go across to Stradbroke Island its just so good hey you've got different resorts on Stradbroke its just so good hey. Drop anchor anywhere sleep floating around. It's not a bad life hey I wish I had nothing else to do. I'd be all the time let me tell you.

Some of the places I've visited just a short run in the boat up here you've got Sovereign Islands, The Grand Hotel you can anchor out the front there and go in, in the little rubber duck, have lunch at the Grand.

There's something to do everyday. You can go further up and there's Stradbroke Island, and everywhere you go there's boats there's people you just gotta pull up in your rubber duck, go across and have a yarn. It's so good hey,

This place is so good you only have to hop in a cab and five minutes up the road into Surfers pick up a bird bring them back to the boat and sometimes you might get a real screamer. What can be better then that? Cut. I haven't been here for a long time but the places I have visited have been so great you get in a cab from where I am staying now at the Yacht Club and five minutes into Surfers and you go to Melba's just over here you go to Saks one of the top restaurants, its just a really great place to go. But if you do go to Melbas in Surfers mention my name and ask for the manager and you will get looked after you might even get a free drink.

I got a feeling this is going to be a great website to help everybody just ask a local is the name of it as you probably know by now going to be a great thing, going to help everybody find there way around and go to the best places, enjoy themselves. I'm not really a local yet but I'm working on it could take a bit of time but you can ask me anyway.
