Welcome to the Gold Coast. My name is Ron Clarke. I have been fortunate enough to be elected Mayor of this wonderful city. The wonderful part of the Gold Coast is the variety we have here. We have this wonderful weather 297 days of the year. On average have eight hours of sunshine. The weather doesn't vary too much. The average temperature of the water is 22 degrees. We have this wonderful coastline we have 21 and a half thousand hectares of parks and gardens that our Gold Coast City Council maintains and we have four hundred and forty seven kilometres of waterways and canals more than Amsterdam and Venice combined that we maintain and we have this 57 kilometers of surfing beaches and foreshore and along all of that in those parks in the hinterland in the forest along the surf beach we can walk and run, jog and cycle. It's just the perfect place to exercise. Anyone who lives or visits on the Gold Coast and they don't exercise they don't want to because the conditions are there. This is the healthiest place in Australia probably the world. The quality of the lifesavers, we have 57 kilometers of surf beach but 40 kilometers of those are patrolled by lifesavers. So in the morning 5am or 5.30am I am usually up by 5.30am I like to walk for two hours you have these thousands of people walking some surfing mainly walking running jogging cycling along the wonderful foreshore. This is the best place in the world to visit to live or to play.
